- 1873 Schooldays
1873 Schooldays is a unique program. The Society works with the local elementary schools to give third-graders one special day of school -- in 1873!
Students experience a schoolday during which they:
- wear pinafores and suspenders (no T-shirts!)
- drink spring water from tin cups (no juice boxes!)
- write on slates (no laptops!)
- play marbles and cat's cradle (no nintendo!)
- have lessons (yes -- there was arithmetic in 1873!)
To see how our students get a chance to live a little bit of history, go to the
2008 photo gallery.
